learn to play bass i learned when i was 14. it took me around 2 months to become good. those people who said it's really easy yea there dumb. once you play bass it is so easy to get in bands because not that many people do it. bassists and drummers are the hardest people to find for bands singers and guitarists are easy to replace. once you learn bass you should also be able to play guitar without learning anything about guitar (i did).

start out with a beginer book and go through it about 2 times. then start learning scales. after that start learning a few songs i would recommend these (these were the first ones i learned they have great bass lines and are pretty easy to play)

Come As You Are - Nirvana
Smells Like Teen Spirit - Nirvana
Riot - Three Days Grace (drop c tunning)
Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace (drop c tunning)
Last Resort - Papa Roach
Enter Sandman - Metallica
References :
Bassists are in high demand so you will have an easier time getting a gig. Some bands have really terrible bassists that just play the same note non-stop so you can learn their stuff no problem. Breaking the Law by Judas Priest has a really simple bassline so give that a try.
References :
I'm a bassist

Bass is a great instrument!
There are a lot of simple, easy riffs that you can learn when you're starting off. Once you've learnt the basics you can start on different techniques, such as slapping.
Watching videos on youtube of other bassists can help quite a bit as well.

Bootsy Collins and Larry Graham are my favourite bassists, they play Funk.
References :
It's easy to be a shit bassist which is what most bassists in bands are. A monkey could do it. Literally.
All you have to do is play the route note of the relevant chord in the melody which is piss easy and there is no skill in it.
To be a good bassist you need to master techniques like slap and tapping as well as fingers, pleck and chordal paying.
Have a look at Les Claypool or flea for some decent slap (though they are overrated) and check out the super mario bass on youtube for some good tapping. Though your first bass won't have 11 strings :)
References :
idk i heard its easy but i play the regular guitar. and i would say try to learn the regular guitar cause if your looking to get in a band then the truth is that you are the most likely to get fired from the band cause apparently bassists are easy to replace. but if you still wanna learn to master the bass then go for it. i would say just practice your plucking technique and pick with two fingers.
