How easy is it to learn the bass guitar? I already know how to play rhythm guitar.?

Just wondering since a mutual friend’s band wants to have me join them even though i don’t know how to play bass. what is a good soulful bass guitar that is around 500? I don’t want to spend alot of money right now… any tips i would appreciate it. also they are getting me a guy to teach me bass but i just wondered since i play piano and regular guitar if it will be fairly easy.

Bass is pretty easy to learn the basics and join a band to start playing, especially if you already know how to play guitar. It’s gets a little more tricky when you get into the crazy funk type bass and jazz but if you are looking into being just rhythm fill than you just follow that guitar player by playing the bass root of his chords. I taught myself to play bass after palying guitar for a few years and I got pretty solid at it. Also find a bass players sound you like and try to pick up ideas from it to help you develop your own sound. Like for me, I used Geddy Lee’s sound as a template for my own.As far as a good bass, look into a Fender P or J bass, like a Made in Japan or Made in Mexico model. Play both to see which sound you like best because they both have different pick up configurations. Also some of the Ibanez basses are nice as well. Bass is really a lot of fun and you may enjoy playing it more that guitar once you see what can really be done with it.

Then you already know how. You only play a basic rhythm pattern with single notes, on bass. So if you already do rhythm guitar, you’re in.
