Billy Canty HELP! I CAN’T SWING ???

This video is ment to spark some educated comments from educated people about the subject of my ability to swing. I have had a few comments on other videos that were unclear. You know, the usual youtube idiot comments like “dosent swing, u suck.”
I have also had some narrow minded but educated comments from people who think that anything outside of traditionial swing is not considered jazz.
I was hoping to get some comments from actual jazz drummers about me not being able to swing. Being that I have brain damage, and have had to teach myself how to play again. Some educated comments would be helpful.
But..If your an idiot..feel free to leave your comment too.
Thanks and God Bless,
Billy

    Hey man, this isn’t …
Hey man, this isn’t an insult – just a few things I noticed that may or may not be of use. First segment – you have constant snare on the “e”. It chokes things up a bit. Needs more space so your snare riffs are more meaningful when you do them. Second clip – tempo pushes and pulls – drags on the fourth beat at times. Last clip – too stiff on the ride, looks like yer pokin’ it. Let the arm be more free and throw the stick a little. Play along to Al Green’s greatest hits – that totally helped me!

    Nice swing, grooves and technique,
I have played Afro Drums for over 10 yrs and I studied with a Jazz traps player when I was 10 till 15, studied African Percussion at about 18.
I was Lead Drummer in African bands that performed traditional African Dances Zimbabwean lady (formerly singer and dancer for Thomas Mapfumo and the late great Ephat Mujuru) also played Rock, Indie, Funk, Reggae, Drum N Bass aswell as Jazz and Blues.
Keep up the TastefulGroove Playing which swings wonderfully.

    Absolutely …
Absolutely beautiful Billy. Don’t take the comments to heart. If you do anything wrong, it’s listening to the negative comments on YouTube. Most of them wouldn’t know swing unless it was a plastic seat suspended from chains in a playground.

I wish you’d post more videos like this. This is probably my favorite of yours. Again, great job!
