if i learn to play the electric guitar can i also play the bass guitar?

i want to play both but can only afford one class to teach me one of these instruments. is it easier to play bass guitar if i take classes on how to play electric guitar or should i take bass guitar lessons first?

Please start with the one you like more. Both have different styles and techniques but ones you learn one of them and get familiar with music and music theory learning the other will be easier than learning the first one.
To give a short answer if you learn to play the electric guitar it does not mean that you can play a bass guitar too. But if you can play the electric guitar the bass guitar will not be a stranger to you. :)

    take the guitar lessons first

that will help teach you about chord structure, and how songs are put together/work
almost every good bass player/drummer I know, also play some guitar or piano.

While bass is similar, you have to learn how to think and listen differently
as the bass player, you are part of the rhythm section, and have to learn to work with the drums.

    good luck, and have fun
