FULL COURSE: truefire.com More guitar lessons – bit.ly On Twitter – www.twitter.com On Facebook – www.truefire.com In this section I will introduce you to the wonders of written music, starting with the most basic things to play on your Bass, open strings. I strongly urge every beginning Bassist to learn how to read. Not doing so will only shut you out of a great deal of information and knowledge. So the best way to start is to get used to looking at the music while you play some very simple exercises. Well learn to understand what the differences between whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, triplets and sixteenth notes are, and how to establish good practice habits to familiarize yourself with them. Ill also talk about the need to learn how to mute the strings that you are not playing and give you some tips to start working on. I will also give you some tips on right hand technique to help you get a nice consistent tone out of your Bass.

IV V IV I,
I V IV I,
I II IV I
are some harmonic cadences that can be used by the other members of a group, but instead of these you how to fool others making them believe that you are a bass god while you are a machine that only knows how to play this.

that would be funny but im also the lead singer and i can play guitar when i need to but the thing is im not going to use that same thing im going to change it to have a rock/metal feel to it
@narutopokemonhalo11 Not me either, but I want one so badly
@journeyquest1 agreeed
I love my bass guitar
Nice even strokes with your right hand…ha ha
@deathencasedimmortal well when i play more punk or modern rock(green day, three days grace, hawk nelson, etc.) i sometimes prefer a pick but even heavy metal and almost everything else i prefer a pick
@narutopokemonhalo11
Your not alone.
cool it’s so easy but i feel really stupid im playing air bass xD
but still cool
@narutopokemonhalo11
HAHA ME 2, i got money down 4 1 tho
@realjuvelive Arpeggios are mostly 3 Notes from the same scale that are used to accent a Chord. Octaves are Notes that are the same note but different pitches. (Ex. Open E and 2nd Fret D are both E, but at different pitches). Scales are used to make walking bass lines and solos. (Walking bass lines are bass lines found in Jazz and Blues).
@puppetmetal would you mind telling what you mean by arpeggios scales octaves ?
@realjuvelive Whatever the bassist wants to play (as long as it fits well in the music.) The stereotype bassists play Eighth Notes on the Root Note of the Guitarists Chords or do whatever the Guitarist does. The funner bassist will add fills or runs, solos, and use Arpeggios, Scales, Octaves, etc.
I sought advice from a musical friend, and he says it’s best to learn how to play a normal guitar before starting on bass… do you agree?
I used to play piano, gave up teaching myself guitar, and am currently a violin player… but I really want to learn how to play the bass guitar. I have an excellent sense of rhythm and would rather just start playing bass than deal with a normal guitar just so I can actually play what I want.
Your thoughts?
yeah, you might be right, but i think it’s really good for people who has learned music before, and has just taken up bass (like me)
What does the bass guitarist actually play ? root notes ? or what ?
@journeyquest1 I completely agree. I wanted to gostep by step, but none of these lessons are in ANY particular order. Im not impressed at all….
@deathencasedimmortal I am a professional player and you are right on. Depending on the style of the music will determine, amongst other things, whether or not you use a pick. I specialize in blues and classic rock, so I don’t use one, but I have in the past when playing speed metal and covers for bands where the bassist uses a pick. Just listen to the style and make that determination based on the style.
@anaisboss96
@acedude181 as far as a pick goes…i know u say that u prefer fingers to pick…but i was just curious if u change it up according to the style of music you’re playing. i dont play bass…shit…i dont even have one. but ive always wanted to learn. i just can’t afford a bass and the amps and shit lol. but anyways…i wasn’t sure if you switch it up from time to time or if it depends on the style you’re playing at that moment.
John Candy?
I’m getting my bass tomorrow!
@Ssimon92 wow..hehe..actually i know some chords in guitar and some songs played by guitar but really don’t know much..i was a bit curious about how different is playing by youself or with a teacher..:)
@ruthDvS1 you can self-learn this if you want. I learned how to play guitar by myself but i dont know everything about it lol im still learning. now im learning how to play this
PENIS
can you self-learn this instrument?..and not getting classes?..is it necessary to study this instrument in school or something like getting bass guitar classes?
@anaisboss96 Hey man, whatever helps you remember! :L
