In this video, I’m providing the basic hammer-on technique used by all the top slap players. It is essential to have a solid foundation in any style of music. If you master this technique, you will be well on your way to playing the most challenging slap grooves. You can download the music at “anthonyvitti.com”

Hi Anthony, Thanks …
Hi Anthony, Thanks for the tip. I had realised that. I think also having watched you playing closely again you strike almost as a 6 string player would pick a down stroke which means that the initial strike does not limit the string in amplitute to the distance to the fretboard. Played your 1st 2 exercises for hours yesterday and it’s really helping. Many thanks.

It is hard to get sound out of the higher strings. You want to get an even sound across the board, so I would tend to turn up the amp and thumb the lower strings lighter. Try that and see if you can even up the sound. I definitely hit the higher string harder than the low ones.

Hey BD,
Thanks for the comment. I’m glad you see it that way. I’m only tough on the students, because it’s a tough business. You guys pay a lot of money to go there and I really want you all to play great. That’s why I do all this stuff. I hope you are doing well.

I took a lab with this guy at Berklee and he kicked my more than any other teacher at the school. He’s a fantastic teacher if you do your homework, otherwise he’s kinda scary if you’re not trying hard. I’m glad he scared the living s..t out of me on the first day of class because I learned a lot from this guy.
BTW: He’s a really cool guy if you do your time in the shed. He’ll go the extra mile to make sure you get the picture.
