Billy Sheehan gets such a sick sound out of his bass. I saw these guys live in a fairly small club in Philadelphia, and his bass sound was just massive – fat and grindy, but clean at the same time. Sort of like the sound he gets here but 100 times louder.

actually its a LOT …
actually its a LOT easier than it sounds, tap followed by pulloff. youve just gotta keep your left and right fingers alternating, the syncronisation is much harder than the speed.
seriously try it, fret 7 with your left hand, then use your little finger to fret and pull off on the 9, then bring your right hand finger down, tap 9, and repeat
