    you can do both, and have them sound great. with active, just adjust yur tone knobs till it sounds good. as for passive, go to yur amp, turn the bass up, scoop the mids, and turn the treble up

    its called lesson cause he plays it slow afterwards, so you can train your ear and try to pick up the riff. Also the thumb over the fretboard isn’t bad form at all, its a technique that louis johnson started. where you also use your thumb to hold down a note, or slide on the e string.

    Also his left hand is just basic hammer-ons and pull-offs with a little bit of vibrato mixed in. It truely is basic stuff but if you can do this….you can do almost anything. And you probably could play along with most of his other videos…

    true……but ya just gotta learn it on your own. Watch what he’s doing and follow along. Pause it rewind it and do it over and over and over until u start to sound like him. If you can play the above song, then you can do TONS of slap stuff. The above lesson is not for total beginers.
