basically a rag and rubbing alcohol thats what ive been told and it works fine…he was using pedge and rubbing off all the fingerboard varnish

  3. cannedspam1 says:

    Do not use pledge …
Do not use pledge or anything like that on any part of your bass. The chemicals in the cleaner heat up the varnish on your bass and can actually slowly remove it. Needless to say, that is a very, very bad thing. One key thing that I like to clean is the bridge itself. With little to no pressure at all, use a microfiber cloth to wipe the bridge down, as lots of rosin can obviously accumulate on the bridge. Just wipe down the strings with an excrutiatingly clean and soft cloth.

    A guy at a repair …
A guy at a repair shop told me he uses #4 steel wool to get the grime off the fingerboard. For the body, he uses a dry cloth. He’s got over 20 years of experience in stringed instrument repair. I’m just reporting what a real expert said.

And to you out there: Make sure you check with somebody who knows what the they’re talking about before you flame me.

    Wow I thought this …
Wow I thought this so-called “expert” village might atleast offer some useful tips on how to clean an instrument (i meen how could you go wrong?) but I was wrong. Like all their other tips on double bass this is BAD advise. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE FROM “EXPERT” VILLAGE!!!! Don’t even keep pledge in the same room as your instrument. Don’t copy the playing technique you see on any of the other bass videos, there are so many things wrong with it i can’t go into it.

    WTF pledge?
    WTF pledge?

  10. kurtsnyder says:

    Please don’t listen …
Please don’t listen to this guy!! No professional bass players use any type of polish!!

FIRST: Nothing even reaches the wood since it is covered in varnish!
SECOND: If you’ve been putting polish and junk like that on your bass, your luthier is going to have an impossible time getting the glue to stick if you have any repairs.

    “Expert Villiage”? What a joke!

    My brother plays …
My brother plays for 3 years and plays a lot better than him… don’t use this guy as a reference… this will certainly screw your career… the guy can’t even clean his own instrument! PLEDGE!! I go bananas with this guy!!! AHAA!!

  12. mrkrauley says:

    PLEDGE?!!??! NO!!! …
PLEDGE?!!??! NO!!! PLEASE DO NOT SUGGEST THIS!!! Plain lemon oil has worked fine for many (hundred?) years and does not contain the waxes and polishes that Pledge does. The detergents, waxes and polish in there will do irreversible damage to the instrument. It has also been known to saturate and dissolve the glue joints and some finishes on antique instruments. I’m not even going to comment on your “playing”.

    Is there any chance …
Is there any chance Pledge will dry out the wood? Just wondering why they make so many kinds of instrument polish when we could just use Pledge.
